STAVESSENCE hand made USB and ETHERNET cable by Karol Stavorko
Since we met in the Warsaw AVShow 2017 Karol felt very enthusiastic about the RM that I made Two weeks later he sent me in Paris his USB Apricity for more evaluation and feedback.
I own and use the best USB cable from o2a actually. I already experienced the fact that 2 USB cables can sound different. So 0/1 is not 1/0 and grounding connection could help digital numbers just before the DAC?
The sound was delivered with more
speed
focus
precision
presence
…tension.
The sound can be darker but not brighter. The tone is impressive and the harmonics are very natural. Artificial clarity and airy imprecision just disappeared.
Finally this cable helps to hear the music in a realistic way.
Congratulations Karol Stavorko“.

“I had a pleasure to test three cables from Stavessence that fell onto my lap the other day. The cables are a result of enormous effort, comparable to putting a A-380 Airbus together. I mean the guy is nuts. He was hoping that there is “something” to be gained beyond “very good and competently designed” cable. He wanted to push the envelope to the territory normally reserved by the titans of good sounding cables – namely Entreq and Skogrand. Mr Stavorko, because he is the subject of this ouverture to the review, took over a year testing endless variations of three factors in the cable – conductor, insulator and geometry. As we already learned the hard way – these factors contribute roughly 33% each to the final sound. YEAH butt we knew it about the interconnect RCA cables, analog domain operation, didn’t we ?
We are talking different lingo now – we are talking USB and Ethernet now. Welcome to audiophile hell !

First of all – the cables are a joy to look at, to unpack and to hold. They are kind of on weird side – with the most sophisticated braid I have ever seen that probably takes a week by hand, while watching 5 seasons of Mad Men. The box belongs in the Gucci category too. My first impression – was that this is a cable for Opec members, Kremlin associates and Brazilian plastic surgeons. Us mortals need not apply.

Material: “Clapton Unplugged” on Tidal MQA.
This song has incredibly rich tonal structure, ultra-pure acoustic guitar (probably costing like my house) and very deep bass from guitar tapping and foot tapping near the mike, not the actual bass instrument.

1. Generic LAN patchcord with benchmark USB cable versus new STAVESSENCE EUNOIA cable: the change is not subtle. It is definitely audible and undeniable. It is not in the “…gee – I am not sure – probably better…” class. Immediately the soundstage is wider by 30%. The bass is much more audible and tuneful, easy to follow. The strings have been lit up like with a spotlight and they have warm metallic sound that is very attractive. Previously they were more grey. The voice is more centered and more life like. Clapton has been miked at last.
2. Moving a notch up on the STAVESSENCE ladder to USB APRICITY – it is like a very similar step to the one we just took. More light on the strings, Clapton woke up and started singing like there is no tomorrow. Foot tapping like an old drummer. It seems like my own floor vibrates like a wooden stage and I can almost smell the dust that this tapping wakes up. But my room has concrete floors. On a subjective scale – a whole notch up in satisfaction.
3. It comes the Ethernet ELOQUENCE LAN cable – a WHOLE METER of it. Not a mile – a meter ! Now I expect my Polytechnic teachers – whoever is reading this – to kick me in the butt but YES the LAN cable has a sound of its own.
Holly shit. This is like swimming in music. I am inside the original venue as if I was the guy holding the mike in front of mr. Clapton. He smiles at me and says “dude, wait till “Tears in Heaven”… And I pretend to run for life. This cable is to Ethernet Audio what Roger Waters is to Audio Shows, it is what a glass of good wine is to a dinner.

Now are we talking nonsense or are we talking good audio? These cables are so expensive they will make you sweat. But in the context of my very decent 50 000 dollar system – not the most costly system by all means – these cables make hell of a difference. And the money kinda make sense too. I haven’t noticed any down sides or weaknesses. All changes were positive and in the direction I value most – towards hallucinogenic musicality. Just what the doctor ordered. Much cheaper than changing amps or upgrading speakers to a higher model. Audiophile’s wives – you you read me ? Do you copy ? He doesn’t need for Christmas any new gloves, scarf or slippers with a monogram. Do you want to see a biig banana smile on his face – this is the gift to die for.”

“By sounding undeniably fabulous, these also pretty links challenge you to bring on your best spleen, piss and vinegar and whatever other gnarliness you can muster.
As far as your ears go, none of it will matter. I so wasn’t expecting to have my well-fed inner cynic defeated so thoroughly. What a show!
For those in an even mellower warmer darker mood, the Eunoia is a simple plug’n’play away. “

“To make sure that we weren’t deluding ourselves, we swapped the CAT5e back in and listened to the same Diab Quintet Seagull Tango tracks. With the generic cable, the diatonic accordion was far less palpable or present. The violin smoothed out while with the Eloquence, the friction of the wax-coated bow hairs was audible. Without it, brass percussion was less brassy and the double bass smaller and less woody. So quickly back it was to the braided version to explore music for hours. When this first listening day came to a close, we dimmed the lights and lowered the volume. This caused no loss in sound quality. The deep bass was still present, dynamics remained convincing and the illusionary stage wa still as wide, deep and high. Leonard Cohen, always great for late nights, sang his final You Want it Darker whose parlando bloomed in true holographic 3D as though we should walk around the late bard. Melanie de Bisasio, another not-so-happy camper but wonderful musician, came to us for a private concert with No Deal – live size drum kit and all. We could rave on but let us simply conclude that this cable is a must for the serious user of high-end streaming sources who runs matching processing equipment. Karol deserves an award just for swimming against the stream of popular preconceptions which state, with utmost conviction no less, that due to their packet delivery and error-correction protocol, Ethernet cables couldn’t possibly make a difference. We beg to differ. CAT5e sounds better than CAT5 and this Eloquence is a whole different ball game.

“StavEssence Eunoia and Apricity are remarkable products of truly impressive performance.
… if anyone wonders how much of an impact this product had on the outcome, well, a lot. If I had to frame the initial Eunoia experience intensity in numbers, I’d give it strong eight points out of ten possible. My point here is that this cable proved to be instantly audible in my reference setup with no questions asked. There were no ifs, ands or buts, but immediate presence. That was one of the most surprising things in this exercise.

Audio Concept

We came across the StavEssence cables following a demo by a colleague. The brief review was very enthusiastic and got us interested. Some time later we contacted the owner Karol in Poland, and he very kindly offered us a cable for review. The company behind the cables were at this point being established. As with true connoisseurs and skilled technicians, the cables from Karol is a labour of love. This is easily spotted as soon as you open the box.

The first thing you notice is the braiding which is strikingly good looking, being done by his wife and adds the luxury feel to the product without it becoming kitsch in any way. The craftsmanship in total is very nice.

The question is, why on earth should a (any) USB cable have a high retail price like this cable does. If it was merely the looks and nothing behind it would of course be crazy. In this case it is well worth the investment. Here is what we found.

The craftsmanship and execution is perfect. The level of service Karol/ StavEssence have shown is top class. When connected, including the separate grounding we found the sound to be, compared to our references more detailed, more dynamic, more spacious. Notable is also the lack of disturbance in the soundstage. The presentation is more natural. With the best gear, which is where this cable belong you will discover why is does have a high price tag and why investing in it is a very good idea.

his is truly a great USB cable. Most likely the very best one around….”.

“Cables Eunoia and Eloquence provide smooth climactic sound, no signs of digitization, “dark sound”, with huge advances in articulation and a detailed musical picture. Wide, deep stage, well rounded bass, natural vocals, warm, detailed background sound, total instrument sustain. Settles “aggressive” systems.

Cables Apricity and Lagoon provide dynamic, high-speed, analytical, resolving yet musical, good control, smooth transmission, no signs of digitization. Wide, deep stage, selective, lowreaching bass. Consistent bandwidth and tone, tangible vocals, total instrument sustain. Revitalizes passive systems, bringing air and lightness.”
